I love how in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Steve and Bucky are having their dramatic highway battle and the cars in the other lane just keep driving. Like, the regular people in the Marvel Cinematic Universe must be so jaded at this point. Like, “Ho hum. Another Monday. Aw dangit. Looks like they’re at it again. The five o’clock rush is gonna be hell.”
Various twitter accounts just like:
So-called superheroes making me late to work again. Are they gonna employ me when I get fired for their incompetence? 🖕
THINK I SAW CAP AMERICA ON HWY 95 BRIDGE 🇺🇸❤️
No one at work believes I was late because I missed my turn due to “enormous bird man.”
#cantmakethisshitupCaptain America vs SHIELD secret police have shootout on freeway in DC. What are they not telling us?
Dropped my snack in floorboard bc some metal arm dude flew off this car & into the gd road. Skittles everywhere.
Saw some guy get tossed into oncoming traffic and hit by a penske truck this afternoon. #gross #wasgettinglunch #nevermind 🤢
FUCKING SUPERHEROES BETTER HAVE SOME SUPER FUCKING INSURANCE. CAME OUT OF MEETING. MY CAR IS TOTALED. WTF?!?!
Saw Black Widow on bridge this afternoon. #daymade
Which Avenger has a metal arm? #newfave 💋
Think I saw Cap A out of costume & still fighting shit. Either that or some kids have taken LARPing too far.
Is there an Avengers with wings? Seriously. This is important.
Pray for those caught in #Hwy95 incident. Bus overturned. Potential Avengers situation. 🙏
Ridding the world of evil? What about the evil of making a girl late to her lunch date? Smh
Got bullet holes in my car today, but it also shielded black widow so like thank you ma'am. It’s been an honor.
Okay I already reblogged the original, but this ‘twitter’ post has me crying, so I have to reblog it too. Lmfao!
Which avenger has a metal arm? #new fave
*dead*
As a former resident of the NOVA/DC area I can honestly say that people driving around this super battle on I-95 was one of the most realistic things about that movie
as another former NoVA, god. yes. this. “This bullshit is blocking every lane except the HOV on-ramp. It’s not 6:30pm yet, but fuck it. I’m getting on the HOV and if they want to ticket me they can send it to captain fucking america.”
Steve Rogers uses voice to text to send texts and formats them like a telegram
HEY BUCK STOP SAM AND I ARE OUT SHOPPING STOP WANT US TO PICK UP SOME TAKEOUT STOP
Steve rogers fully understands that this is not the correct way to text. He just likes the absolute outrage it causes every time someone receives a text from him and wants to see how many times he can make the same people explain texting to him until they realize. Sam is currently at 14 times, beating out tony who’s at nine. Twice now shuri has facetimed him after reading bucky’s texts. He’s also managed to convince thor that this is the Earth Way to text and it’s great
Please. Steve did this to Shuri ONCE and she immediately recognized it for what it was, added T’Challa to a group chat, and started responding to Steve in kind. Then she started taking screenshots of T’Challa’s unfailingly polite attempts to explain both how texting protocol works and what “trolling” is, and posting them on the Wakandan internet.
Several of Steve’s more intentionally clueless responses immediately became memes.
It’s not so much that Steve keeps referring to group chats as “party lines” that makes Tony lose it. It’s the fact that Peter and Shuri pick it up and, with straight faces, insist it’s gen z lingo and Steve’s the only avenger cool enough to know it.
FAVORITE CHARACTER MEME: Steve Rogers + Captain America: The First Avenger [1/5 Movies]
“While editors were frantically cutting Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk at L.A.’s Tribeca West offices, [Kevin] Feige was also thinking about Captain America. As a huge fan of The Rocketeer, he was trying to secure Academy Award winner Joe Johnston to direct Cap’s first adventure. Standing in the parking lot at the corner of Bundy and Olympic, Feige had a revelation about how to solve a problem with The First Avenger’s development.
Initially, early creative discussions had determined the first half of the movie should see Cap battling enemies during World War II. Then he goes on ice. The second half would see Cap getting thawed in the present day. Feige was concerned that this structure didn’t allow the audience to get to know the most important thing about Captain America: Steve Rogers.
With The Rocketeer in Feige’s mind, he started to consider that maybe the movie should just be a full-on World War II movie, and that Rogers shouldn’t go on ice until the very end. In the early drafts, there was no focus on a skinny, everyday Steve Rogers; the story was fully committed to a super soldier getting frozen in the forties, and then fighting evil in the present day. Feige, in collaboration with [Jeremy] Latcham, realized instead that the entire film needed to put its spotlight on a thin kid with a lot of heart. And then give him powers.” - Tara Bennett and Paul Terry, The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
the original draft version of the first avenger script is available online and as someone who is desperate for every crumb of mcu steve content i can get, here’s a list of some of the lines and moments i wish they had kept in the finalized version of the film.
1. steve saying both his parents were fighters (and he is too).
2. steve suggesting they go to church and bucky just going ‘hmmmm….no thanks’.
3. this is the one that makes me feel most insane: steve mentioning that sarah used to let him stand on her feet and dance with her in their apartment when he was small.
4. this line that validates my long-held headcanon that steve doesn’t actually know how to swim before the serum and only learns on the fly after.
5. the train/fall scene originally having bucky take the shield and jump in front of a shot meant for steve + steve actually being able to grab his hand and pull him in for a split second.
6. this explanation of the dynamic between steve and bucky of bucky always being steve’s lifeline/anchor and how that stayed the same even after the serum.
7. :(

Steve’s choices / Bucky’s lack thereof
The Pevensie kids are otherwordly in more ways than the naked eye reveals.
For starters, with all the years they have spent around great cats, they are absolutely silent when they walk. They can stalk and prowl like no one’s business, and once, when a girl pissed off Lucy, she showed her her teeth.
When a shrink asks her why she is scared of cats, so many years later , she remembers the white flash in the schoolyard, the sudden certainty of death.
Second of all, they don’t seem to leave footprints in snow. In the winters of Narnia, magic was all around Cair Paravel, benign spirits showing them how to leave no traces, go unseen in the great white. Some swear they move without touching the earth. No one is sure enough to rebutt them.
The Pevensies are unbeatable in snowball fights. Especially Susan can throw like a honkball pitcher, able to single out and pick off targets that should be out of reach.
When the boys drink alcohol for the first time, at ages 17 and 15, they turn out to have great tolerance, something no one their age should have. Yet Peter and Edmund can beat anyone in a drinking game. Narnian spirits were strong (pun intented), so they do not find this feat particularly challenging. And no one understands how Susan puts away bottles and bottles of wine without ever slurring her words or losing her razor sharp mind.
The boys that keep pouring her more wine, hoping to take her home drunk, leave disappointed every night. Susan knows what’s up. She’s been forced to sit through boring diplomatic dinners with alcohol as her only interesting companion, is used to men trying to take advantage when she drinks. She will not be tricked by school boys.
They have a tolerance for other substances, too.
When someone gets the bright idea to roofie Lucy at age 16, he ends up with a nail through his foot, hanging from the highest tree in London.
Lucy shows up the next day with dirt under her nails and a hammer in her backpack. The teachers take one look at Peter, who stares back with a glare that could refreeze Narnia, and decide not to say a word.
They’re all insanely strong swimmers. Susan won prizes before, but now she’s breaking records. Edmund saves a man twice his weight from drowing, dragging him along across a cold lake for half a mile.
No one understands how the scrawny, 5"9 kid pulled that off. Or how he manages to hold his breath for so long.
And then there is the question of their minds.
Suddenly, Edmund can beat even the most experienced men in chess. He goes on to become champion of the region and then of the whole of England.
Peter, once a mediocre student, is now a stunningly good writer. When his professor reads his essay for Ethics, he weeps, something that has never happened before. Many see a future in academia for him.
Susan becomes known as the best problem solver in school. She’s able to resolve many conflicts, not in the least because she’s so attractive men stop thinking about fighting the second she steps into a room. But underneath the beauty resides a smooth operator. Her professors don’t doubt for a second she’ll be a brilliant politician.
Lucy no longer has the child like innocence from before the war. Her sense of wonder never left her, though. The centaurs have taught her astronomy, and looking at the stars reminds her of Narnia, one of the few things that are the same. The boarding school telescope goes missing an awful lot, as does she. Often, her brothers and sister come along, especially on bright nights. They never get caught.
They’ve changed. And they hold onto these pieces of Narnia, because it is all they have left.
